We rented a 6 person golf cart. When I originally booked I was told we would probably get a gas cart because of our location (far back in Currituck Club) I guess electric doesn't work well on inclines. The first one we received was electric and didn't do very well over any hills or inclines. It also died quickly and would slow down and randomly lurch forward. We called to get a replacement. They did come out super quick and replace it. We ended up with another electric one. It was better than the first one but gas probably would have been best for our location.
We loved the golf carts we rented. Made it easy to get out family to the beach with everything we needed. One of the carts was significantly slower than the other. One went 35 mph, the other couldn't go over 30 mph. However, we were happy with the rental.
We had the best experience with our cart rental! We decided pretty last minute to get a cart and could only get a 4 seat when we rented. I sent a note to the company that we would be interested in a 6 seat if one became available and got a call Friday afternoon before heading to the island that we were able to upgrade. The whole family loved having the option of taking the cart to run errands or just drive around the block for the fun of it. The delivery was seamless and we had everything we needed!
Golf cart was in place and plugged in when we arrived. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening rides to Booty Treats. It made going to the beach so much easier with the children and all of their sand toys! I do wish the battery lasted longer. One trip for ice cream and it was dead. Overall I would recommend OBX Beach Buggies.
We are extremely disappointed with the service from OBX Beach Buggies and would not recommend this company to anyone. From the start, the golf cart we rented had issues—low to no tread on the front right tire, unpredictable jerking, and by Tuesday night, the tire completely blew out. It was unsafe and unacceptable.
We spent that evening and the following day trying to reach someone—calling multiple numbers listed online and in our emails, with no response and some of those numbers even out of service. Eventually, we had to drive nearly an hour to their storefront, only to find it closed despite their posted hours.
It took almost the entire day to get a replacement cart, disrupting our plans. We had to call a completely separate business owned by the same person just to get any update.
When it came time for pickup, there was no communication at all. They showed up unannounced, were rude to our family when the cart wasn’t present (though we returned it within minutes), and even blocked our neighbor’s driveway during the process.
The lack of professionalism, poor communication, and overall disregard for customer experience made this a frustrating and stressful part of our vacation. We will not be renting from OBX Beach Buggies again.
